105th Harley-Davidson
This year,
Harley-Davidson®
celebrated its 105th Anniversary…
and the legend lives on! Many Harley-Davidson®
owners would even go so far as to say that it’s more than a legend,
it’s a way of life (the classic phrase…but oh so true!). The allurement to these bikes is
obviously due to its style, affordability, the image it projects, and the unique sound of the motor.
To commemorate this American bike’s anniversary, the exclusive Canadian distributor of Harley-Davidson® parts and products
Deeley Canada, organized a celebration which was held in three major cities; on August 23rd at Jarry Park in Montreal,
Quebec, and on August 24th in both Toronto, Ontario and Winnipeg, Manitoba. We attended
the event at Jarry Park and what a relief that we had a beautiful day,
instead of the usual rainfall that dampened Quebec
this past summer.
Canadian Biker Build Off
Vern Savage and Randy Doan held the 4th edition of the Canadian Biker Build Off in the
city of Welland, situated close to Niagara Falls, Ontario. The site could have handled double the actual
number of visitors good weather permitting, yet nothing was amiss; vendor booths, good music, pretty
girls, of course lots of beer, but most of all, the customized bikes.
Vern and the team thought of everything for this custom bike competition. Shops from Ontario and
Quebec were present to compete for the trophy. In all five shops competed, but this did not mean
that the competition wasn’t intense. The International Master Bike Builder Association, the IMBBA, was...
50th S&S
S&S® Cycle, a 50 year-old American v-twin performance
company (www.sscycle.com), enjoyed an incredibly
successful 50th Anniversary Celebration from June 27-29,
2008. The city of La Crosse played host to approximately
30,000 visitors as riders came in from across the country
and around the world to commemorate the occasion.
S&S started out with one goal in mind, the vision of founder
George Smith—to make all motorcycles go faster. With
that mantra in mind the second and third generations
of Smith family have steered the company as the leader
in high-performance v-twin components and engines. A
strong dealer and distributor network have helped S&S
continue to grow and in turn, gave S&S a reason to
expand the services it offered.
Wharf Rat Rally
For the fourth consecutive year,
Digby in Nova Scotia hosted
the Wharf Rat Rally which
united a phenomenal 60,000+
bikers. With great weather on
their side, an estimated 15,000
bikes of every make and model
lined up the main street of the
town, (all anticipating admiration).
There was a great atmosphere
of camaraderie on the Island
over the Labour Day weekend,
which this year took place from
August 29th through September
1st, 2008.
The initiator of this event, Peter
Robertson, along with the
rest of the team, went all out,
encouraging people to visit
their warm and welcoming
municipality. Many American
builders were present: Eddy
Trotta of Thunder Cycle Design,
Matt Hotch of Matt Hotch
Design, Brad Ruel of The
Wrench, and for the second
year in a row, California’s
Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles.
Also present as Canadian
celebrity newcomers were Alain
Touringny of Touring Creation
– who is the 2008 Canadian
Biker Build-Off Champion – and
Luc Leblanc of Kent County
Custom, New Brunswick.
For those wanting to meet
the celebrities in person, a
Celebrity Dinner was held at
the Pines Hotel.
