customary side mirrored by
an architectural dissimilarity
including new technologies
that attract the young.
In downtown Tokyo it’s not
uncommon to see at the same
busy intersection a businessman
wearing a tie standing next to a woman wearing a yukata (kimono).
Better yet, an ancient temple and garden shadowed
by modern structures and a replica of
the Eiffel Tower (13 meters taller than the one
in Paris). Yet even here at the opposite side of
the world motorcycle enthusiasts can find a
common bond: bikes.
Many of us believe that the Japanese are
committed uniquely to their products. Think
again! They are very big fans of Harley-
Davidson and especially of the older model
bikes such as Panheads and Shovelheads.
Pile O Bones
In recent years I’ve heard talk about the Pile-O-Bones
Show held in Regina and I figured it was time for
Revolution Magazine to attend this first-rate motorcycle
and tattoo convention which took place during the first
weekend of May.
I left Montreal on April 30 where the temperature was
hovering around 20 degrees Celsius but when I arrived
in Regina, well that was another story. It was snowing and
the temperature was below zero, and unfortunately this
lasted the whole weekend. I say unfortunately because
no one rode their bikes to the event, which is very rare for
this time of year. The organizers told me that last year the
weather was so perfect that hundreds of motorcycles were
parked in front of the venue.
The King of Customs Show
In the western part our country there is not only the beauty
of the Rockies and the seashores there is also a high
concentration of beautiful motorcycles, Hot Rods and
tattoos. One observation I have made while travelling from
province to province for this magazine is that there are a lot
more Hot Rods in the west than in the east, and that they are
built with much more American influences. Possibly because
they are much closer to California where the “Hot-Rod mania”
industry is mostly concentrated.
On the custom motorcycle side of things, there are much more
choppers in the east and the eastern bike builders seem to be
more influenced by the Europeans. They also tend to benefit...
